    India has a predominantly Hindu population. As such a large proportion of the local laws and customs follow Hindu traditions. These traditions include;

    Respecting cows. They have the right of way on all roads and it is forbidden to eat them.
    Do not use your left hand for eating or meeting people, this is because the left hand is considered unclean as it is primarily used when going to the bathroom.
    Shoes are considered impure; do not wear shoes inside a temple or private home. Touching someone with a shoe is considered an ultimate insult.
    Do not sit with the soles of your feet pointing towards an Alter, shrine, or another person. Sit on your feet or cross your legs.
    Pointing, or gesturing with your index finger during a conversation is considered a grave insult and should be avoided.

    Traveling on Indian roads can be hazardous, especially in rural areas at night. Poor and badly maintained vehicles are the primary reason for road and traffic accidents. Driving conditions may be very different from what you are used to and all due care should be taken.

    Traveling in India during the monsoon season can be dangerous due to the high risk of flooding and landslides. Floods can cut off access to some areas and you should check on the current conditions in your destination before starting your trip.

    There is a risk of street crime in India. Possible risks include;

    ATM/Credit card theft and fraud especially in the Major cities or while using public transport.
    Passport theft. You should keep your passport in a safe place for the duration of your travels and only keep copies of important identification documents on your person.
    Tainted food and drink. Be careful as to what you eat or drink while on your trip, there have been cases where travelers have been drugged and then robbed. Avoid street-side vendors where possible.
    There is a heightened risk of women being robbed and/or raped in Delhi and Goa. Avoid walking alone or in isolated locations after dark and always be vigilant.

    There are a number of health issues throughout the Indian subcontinent. Potential health risks include;

    Malaria. Malaria is endemic to the South Asian Region and the majority of the travelers who have contracted the disease did not take adequate precautions. It is important to note that even if you do take the proper precautions it is still possible to suffer from the disease. Should you display flu like symptoms during your travels or within one year of returning home, contact a medical professional immediately.
    Dengue fever has seen sporadic outbreaks all over the country. It is not possible to prevent dengue fever with medicines, and you should take precautions against mosquitoes. As with Malaria, if you fall ill within one year of returning home, contact a medical professional.

    There have been outbreaks of the Chikungunya Virus throughout the region. This disease is very similar to Dengue fever and also requires that you protect yourself against mosquitoes and other blood sucking parasites.

    Overall the majority of trips to India are free of problems if sensible precautions are taken. Make sure that you are prepared for all eventualities before traveling. India Insurance Testimonials

I found the Pacific Prime web-site very informative and from here I contacted Dave. The advice that I received allowed me to select a policy for my family that was tailored to our needs. It was refreshing to receive some impartial advice and not have someone try to push a particular product on me.
