Can you provide coverage for an employee of a US company working in China

 

Question: 
If there is an employee of a US company that is working in China, are they eligible to be covered in China US Citizen? If so, what type of coverage can they receive? Will they be able to get coverage for their US citizen children that live with this employee while working in China?

Answer:

In many cases we are able to structure the plan coverage to suit the requirements of the organization in question. Our advisors are often able to tailor the plan to allow employees of different levels to receive alternative coverage and benefits potentially allowing for more senior members of the company, or group, to have more comprehensive levels of coverage.

In addition to this, we are able to structure the overall plan benefits to give you a range of coverage options, including; Dental care, maternity cover, emergency evacuation, out-patient benefits, and personal accident options.

Group medical insurance policies often offer better coverage options that individual health insurance plans; this is because group policies may allow coverage of pre-existing conditions. With larger groups including 20 or more members, it may be possible to obtain a “medical history disregarded” benefit. Under this type of plan benefit, any group members suffering from a pre-existing condition will often be able to receive coverage for their illness.

It is at the group’s discretion as to whether the plan will cover dependants of the members. However it is important to note that this is often not allowed on an individual basis and that in order for dependant coverage to be included in a policy it will have to be included for the group as a whole, rather than per-person.

Should a member leave the group, depending on the insurance provider you choose to work with, they may be allowed to take their coverage with them on an individual basis. This is a great advantage, as it means uninterrupted coverage for the individual in question, allowing pre-existing conditions to continue to be covered as they would were the employee still a member of the group.
