Singapore is one of the largest medical tourism destinations in the world. With internationally accredited medical facilities and highly renowned physicians, Singapore attracts more than 200,000 medical tourists every year. Further to this, Singapore has one of the largest proportions of high class expatriates, placing an even further demand on 'expat-friendly' health care services in the country.
To accommodate the large number of foreign patients in Singapore, the country has set up 24 International Patient Service Centers (IPSC's). IPSC's are a one stop shop for medical tourists, offering a wide range of services from accommodation to sight seeing. IPSCs help patients navigate their way through Singapore's health care system, while having a pleasant stay in the country.
IPSC's are attached to some of Singapore's largest hospitals and medical centers in the country. For example, a patient traveling to Singapore for heart surgery can visit the IPSC at the National Heart Center Singapore. At the IPSC, the patient will receive full assistance ensuring they are well informed during their hospital stay in Singapore. The IPSC will advise on the estimated cost of the medical treatment and provide full liaison with the patient's insurance company.
IPSC's will also offer assistance with appointment bookings, medical referrals, hospital admission, translation services, evacuation, ambulance, and travel arrangements such as flights, airport transfers, transportation, accommodation, and visa application. IPSC's can also offer advice on things to do in Singapore while the patient recovers, such as sightseeing and leisure activities. IPSC's may also offer concierge services, such as foreign exchange, laundry, mail postage, private nursing, and business center facilities for internet, fax and photocopying.
