How can one apply for maternity insurance, if the lady is already pregnant | ||
Question: Pacific Prime is able to provide our customers with comprehensive international maternity insurance options which will afford you and your family with the coverage that you deserve in the modern world. Maternity options which we advise on will typically offer comprehensive cover for a routine delivery and will protect you in the event that there is a complication during the birth. It is important to be aware that many global health insurance plans will impose a waiting period on a number of coverage benefits; this is true with regards to maternity insurance. This means that until you have been enrolled on a policy for a specific amount of time (which can vary between different policies and insurance companies), you will be unable to claim for any maternity treatment expenses received prior to the completion of the waiting period. Typically the shortest waiting period for maternity coverage is 10 months from the start of the plan. However, a maternity insurance plan will normally afford the policyholder with a number of extended benefits, including New Born Child coverage. A New Born Child benefit will typically be offered in one of two ways. Either the child will be “born into the plan”, or they will receive a “free benefit”. The way in which this coverage will be offered will usually depend on the plan which you have obtained and the insurance company you are working with. If the child is born into the plan then they are eligible for continuing life time coverage no matter what the state of their health at birth. The policyholder must simply inform their insurance company of the birth and have the child added to the existing plan. It is important to note, however, that having a child born into a plan will significantly raise the policy premium. If the child receives a free benefit under the policy, then they will be covered up to a predetermined time, or financial limit. Once the limit has been reached the parents must submit an application to the insurance company for continuing coverage. While new born coverage will also typically be attached to a waiting period, it is noteworthy that the waiting period is often much shorter than that which is associated with a maternity benefit. In many cases it is possible to obtain New Born Child Coverage after having only been enrolled in an expatriate health insurance plan for 6 months. This means that depending on the length of time which you have been pregnant, you may still be able to ensure that you have adequate protection for your child.
