Can you offer family coverage

Can you offer Family coverage

Question:
I'm a 53 year old, male, healthcare practitioner, here in the US and I am thinking of moving back to the Philippines to open some Sleep Disorders Center. My wife and children are already in the Philippines. My wife is 46 and my kids are 21, 12 and 11 years old. What are our options with regard to obtaining coverage? Would appreciate your earliest response.

Answer:
Trying to protect your family in the modern world can be a major challenge. At Pacific Prime we are able to offer a number of options for Family Global Health Insurance. Plans that we can provide will typically afford you a number of options for your coverage including specialist consultations, in-patient and out-patient treatment, maternity, dental, alternative therapies and emergency evacuation. Plans that we offer are usually guaranteed renewable for life in addition to being internationally portable and allowing you the freedom to choose where you receive your treatment anywhere in the world.

In some cases obtaining a family plan can hold a significant advantage over individual international health insurance policies. Pacific Prime may be able to offer a wider range of options for a family plan over individual health insurance and which may afford you significant premium discounts when adding your children to the plan. It is important to note that plans will typically limit the inclusion of children over the age of 18 on to the policy. However, in some instances if the child is a student (i.e. enrolled in a tertiary educational institution), continuing coverage may be possible up to the completion of their studies. It is highly recommended that you understand any age limits that may be included in your plan prior to purchase and whether or not they apply to your situation.

When obtaining an expatriate family health insurance policy you will normally have the option to choose the plan’s area of geographical coverage. Your options will typically be between Worldwide Coverage or Worldwide Coverage excluding the USA. The primary reason for this is due to the high costs associated with healthcare in the USA. In this instance it may be wise to think about the permanence of your relocation to the Philippines. If you will be spending less than 6 months of the year in the United States it may be wise to consider obtaining a plan that excludes the USA for the coverage area. If you elect to purchase a plan that includes coverage inside America then the policy premium may be increased.

It is important to note that while choosing a policy that excludes coverage in the US will deny you from receiving elective treatment in the country, in many cases an international health insurance plan may still cover you for accidents and emergencies while you are outside of the coverage area. It is imperative that you weigh all the options and obtain unbiased advice prior to enrolling on a plan, as your decisions can have long term consequences.

Pacific Prime is able to provide comprehensive global health insurance policies to individuals and families around the world. Our expert consultants understand the myriad of issues facing the modern expatriate and will work with you to achieve your long term healthcare objectives.
