Can Individuals over the age of 65 obtain health insurance in Uruguay
At present Pacific Prime is unaware of any specific legislative requirements passed by the Uruguayan government which would prevent expatriate individuals over the age of 65, currently located in Uruguay, from obtaining health insurance coverage within the country.
Around the world it is typical for health insurance companies operating on a local, rather than international basis to impose age caps on the services and policies they offer. Local health insurance policies will typically not offer coverage after an individual has reached a certain age, in most cases 65 years old. In certain instances local health insurance plans may even deny a renewal option for customers who have reached the cutoff age while enrolled in the policy – meaning that once you have turned 65 you will no longer be allowed to continue on the plan.
However, this is only true for local health insurance policies. International medical insurance plans which Pacific Prime works with will often allow you to obtain a new policy well into your retirement. We can offer new health insurance options to individuals up to 79 years old. Additionally, the plans that we offer are often guaranteed renewable for life, so you are always assured of having the option of continuing to receive coverage under your policy no matter what your age may be.
This is only one area in which Local Health Insurance and International Health Insurance policies will differ. For additional information on this topic please visit our page: Local V.S. International Health Insurance.
At age 66 we have a number of Uruguay Health Insurance options which may be suitable for you. Plans are available from more than 60 of the leading international health insurance companies, and our advisors will work with you to ensure that all your future healthcare objectives are met.
These policies will give you high levels of coverage while in Uruguay, but also offer global insurance protection. This means that if you suffer a serious illness or accident while outside Uruguay, our plans will be able to afford you the coverage you require and enable you to receive immediate treatment. Additionally, health insurance policies from Pacific Prime are typically globally portable, meaning that should you relocate away from Uruguay your plan will travel with you, ensuring uninterrupted protection.
Giving you the freedom to choose where you receive your medical treatment, with the choice of any doctor or hospital anywhere in the world, International health insurance policies ensure that you are always able to access the highest standards of medical care available, even if comprehensive treatment options are not present in your current location. This can be a vital benefit for a retiree as some specialty medical services are only available in certain locations.
When choosing a Uruguay health insurance policy from Pacific Prime you will be asked to choose the geographical area in which the plan provides coverage. Typically there are two options in this regard: Worldwide, or Worldwide excluding the USA. The reason for this is due to the fact that the USA has the highest average medical costs in the world, and by excluding the USA from coverage under your plan you may be able to achieve significant premium savings. However, medical technology in the USA is of the highest standard. Travel from Uruguay to the USA is not as onerous as travel from the USA to Asia, and as such it may be a positive step to include USA medical coverage in the plan if you are concerned about being able to access the best treatment options.
We can provide you with an extensive range of options for Uruguay health insurance coverage. While many local companies operating in the country may not be able to accommodate older individuals, Pacific Prime can.
