CIGNA ID Card
- Bring your CIGNA ID Card to your medical appointment.
- Your CIGNA ID Card will provide contact details for inquiries or assistance.
- Your CIGNA ID Card will provide details on your ID Number, Coverage Effective Date, Account Number, Co-payment, and general information relating to inpatient or outpatient claims.
- 'Away from Home Care' logo will indicate access to CIGNA National Network.
- Claims are submitted to the address shown on the back of the CIGNA ID Card.

The CIGNA Helpline can provide you with assistance throughout the claims process. CIGNA members can use the service to discuss their policy benefits and receive instructions on how to claim.
How to claim for Hospital treatment
You will need pre-authorisation from CIGNA for hospital treatment.
- Call CIGNA to obtain pre-authorization

A claim form is completed by you and your doctor
Claim form is sent to CIGNA
CIGNA assesses your claim for treatment and makes a decision
CIGNA approves your treatment and you are admitted to hospital. - After pre-authorization
Admission to hospital or health care facility - Direct Settlement
CIGNA will pay the hospital or health care facility
Direct settlement is the typical mode of payment
CIGNA and the hospital will organise authorisation and payment - If you pay for treatment
Obtain an invoice from the hospital or health care provider
Send invoice to CIGNA with a claim form for the treatment you received
CIGNA will reimburse you within 5 days of submitting a completed claim - If you have selected a Deductible
If you have a deductible option, you will pay this amount to the hospital or health care facility. CIGNA will pay the outstanding amount after the deductible has been paid.
A deductible is an agreed amount in which the policy holder pays before treatment is reimbursed by the insurer.
How to claim for Emergency treatment
Pre-authorization is not required if you require emergency medical treatment.
- Call CIGNA within 48 hours of an emergency

How to claim for Dental treatment
You will not need to fill out a claim form if you receive treatment at a Network Provider.
- Select a dentist from the CIGNA list of dental Network providers.
If you do not select a dentist from the Network list, you will need to obtain approval from CIGNA, otherwise your treatment may not be covered unless it is for emergency treatment. - Make an appointment with your dentist.
Bring your CIGNA ID Card to the appointment. - If you pay for treatment
Obtain an invoice from the hospital or health care provider
Send invoice to CIGNA with a claim form for the treatment you received
CIGNA will reimburse you within 5 days of submitting a completed claim - Direct billing
You will not need to pay for dental treatment, that is covered under your dental policy benefits. - Out of pocket expenses
Any treatment that is not covered on your dental plan will need to be paid. Out of pocket costs are generally lower at Network providers.
