New to this year's report is the addition of Compound Annual Growth Rates (CAGRs) by country and insurer. Based on the average prices of individual and family international health insurance plans from 2015 - 2018, we can see that the CAGRs of the African countries studied in this report vary significantly - from 2.95% in Algeria to -1.08% in Sierra Leone.
Interestingly, most countries in the continent reported a positive CAGR rate. This means that most locations have seen their average premiums increase since 2015. To be clear here, the CAGR is based on the average cost of health insurance in each country. As it's based on average premiums, not all premiums in the country will have increased.
Average CAGR by insurer
The table below displays the CAGR of plans in each country from 2015 to 2018 broken down by insurer. One of the most standout findings is the wide range between the four insurers. For example, Namibia has a very large gap between insurers, with Allianz' plans recording a CAGR of 11.65% and Cigna's plans recording one of -6.34%. Please bear in mind, however, that this doesn't necessarily mean that Cigna's plans are the cheapest.
