Currently, it is still unclear whether the virus is also airborne.<\/p>\n<h3>How many countries has the novel coronavirus entered?<\/h3>\n<p>As the Lunar New Year holiday season approaches, more and more Chinese tourists have started to travel abroad, including citizens from Wuhan. This has led to a series of cases where the virus crossed the Chinese border into other countries, starting with Thailand.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>Thailand<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On January 13, a 61-year-old Chinese woman carried the coronavirus into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bangkokpost.com\/thailand\/general\/1841199\/first-thai-infected-with-coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thailand<\/a>. The infected woman was from Wuhan, and since then, there have been 4 reported cases of the mystery virus in the Kingdom.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>Japan<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On January 16, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/news\/asia\/wuhan-pneumonia-coronavirus-outbreak-japan-first-case-12267106\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Japanese<\/a> man in his 30s tested positive for the novel coronavirus, next to Tokyo. The Japanese health minister reported that the man had been to Wuhan where the outbreak began.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>South Korea<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On January 20, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/csr\/don\/21-january-2020-novel-coronavirus-republic-of-korea-ex-china\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">South Korea<\/a> reported its first case of the new viral pneumonia. This time, the infected person was a 35-year-old Chinese female originally from Wuhan.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>Taiwan<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On January 21, a Taiwanese woman in her 50s living in Wuhan who returned to the island tested positive for the disease.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>The US and Hong Kong<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On January 22, <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2020\/01\/21\/health\/wuhan-coronavirus-first-us-case-cdc-bn\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the US<\/a> confirmed its first case of the Covid-19 coronavirus.\u00a0 The patient is a US citizen in his 30s who has just returned from Wuhan. Later that day, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/news\/asia\/man-quarantined-after-hong-kong-s-first-preliminary-positive-12302346\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hong Kong<\/a> also reported its first case of the virus after a 39-year-old man tested positive for the flu.<\/p>\n<p>These are the number of countries that have reported cases of new pneumonia at the time of this article\u2019s writing. The list is likely to grow larger in the near future. The Chinese government has already suspended all outbound transport from Wuhan in an attempt to minimize the spread of the disease.<\/p>\n<h3>How many people are infected so far?<\/h3>\n<p>The number of people being infected continues to increase, and unfortunately, so does the death toll.
