Please note here that the temporary residency visa can only be renewed once.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Permanent Residency Visa<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Permanent residency visas allow a foreign citizen to remain in Ecuador for an indefinite period of time. To obtain permanent residence status, applicants must meet the following criteria:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have stayed in Ecuador for<\/span><b> at least 21 months<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have married or formed a legally recognized civil union with an Ecuadorian person<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be a minor or a disabled person who depends on an Ecuadorian person or foreigner with permanent resident status<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be related to an Ecuadorian person or permanent resident of Ecuador<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the first two years from the date the visa is granted, those with a permanent residency visa are not allowed to be out of the country for more than 180 days each year. These percentages, for many expats, can be a considerable amount.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Public medical care is 100% free if you\u2019re enrolled in the IESS, as long as you visit facilities that are contracted with the IESS.
