Enrollment in the universal health insurance system is <\/span><b>mandatory<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The three health insurance schemes included in this system are:<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>National Health Insurance (NHI): <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provides coverage to the self-employed, the unemployed, those who work less than 30 hours a week, international students, and retired residents aged 75 or younger.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Employment-based health insurance: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provides coverage for employees, where employers and employees share mandatory contributions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Health insurance for the advanced elderly: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provides coverage for individuals who are aged 75 and over.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Citizens and noncitizens enrolled in one of these health insurance plans will pay a monthly premium and a copayment on whatever medical service they receive. The rate of health insurance premiums will vary between plans.\u00a0<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Copayments are the same across the different health insurance plans, with cost-sharing varying according to age. Young children and the elderly will pay less in copayments. There are also monthly maximum limits for out-of-pocket costs for insured members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once members have hit their monthly maximum limit for out-of-pocket costs, they will be reimbursed or not charged for further services for the rest of the month.
