At least 100 people were killed, 7,000 people were affected, and some even went missing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At least 45 of the missing victims were also employees of local firm <\/span><b>Apex Mining<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to which employees waiting on buses leaving the mine were engulfed in the landslide.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indonesia<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also located by the Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia has an even greater susceptibility to earthquakes than the Philippines due to being situated on three tectonic plates. Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, the earthquakes also evoke tsunami waves that pose further danger to the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>But there\u2019s more than earthquakes and tsunamis. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On March 13th, 2024, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.savethechildren.net\/news\/indonesia-floods-force-more-15000-children-their-homes-sumatra-indonesia-battles-second-climate\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">floods and landslides<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Indonesia\u2019s island of Sumatra affected up to 15,500 children and 40,000 families, making this Indonesia\u2019s second major flood in a month. At least 263 people were killed, and over 11 went missing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The monsoon season in Indonesia usually occurs between November and March, causing floods and landslides in Indonesia\u2019s archipelago, consisting of over 17,000 islands.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">27 of India\u2019s 29 states are constantly exposed to floods, cyclones, droughts, earthquakes, and landslides. India\u2019s susceptibility to natural disasters could be attributed to the country\u2019s topographic features.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examples include earthquake-induced landslides in the Himalayas, flooding-prone plains in the mainland, and tsunami waves caused by tectonic movements in coastal regions. There are also tropical cyclones that occur from May to June and October to November.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On October 4th, 2023, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.business-standard.com\/india-news\/2023-the-year-that-was-notes-from-the-planet-a-wake-up-call-123122500893_1.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">heavy rainfall<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the South Lhonak Lake of North Sikkim triggered a flood in the Teesta. This makes Colombia even more susceptible to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Hurricanes can also affect the Caribbean coast.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Climate change also contributes to the country\u2019s increased susceptibility to landslides and flooding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colombia has two rainy seasons\u2013March to June and September to November; and the hurricane season occurs from June to November, during which floods, landslides, and rain can become problematic for travel plans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On January 13th, 2024, at least 33 people were killed in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/1\/13\/dozens-killed-in-colombia-landslide-including-children\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">landslide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> resulting from intense rainfall in Northwestern Colombia. Additionally, a mudslide blocked a roadway connecting the cities of Quibdo and Medellin in the Pacific province of Choco.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dozens of people were also injured on a busy highway, and some people went missing after mud engulfed countless cars on the road.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">China<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As China is located where the Eurasian, Pacific, and Indian Ocean plates meet, the country suffers from frequent earthquakes due to constant tectonic movements.
