Thus Tunisia is distinctly different from the rest of Africa, and can offer an experience that is uniquely Tunisian. To make your travels to Tunisia that much more pleasurable and memorable experience we have included some travel and advice tips. Tunisia Image 2

    • There is a minimal threat of terrorism in Tunisia. Threats to western interests throughout the Arab world have been issued by numerous terrorist groups and Tunisia is not exempt from this threat. It should be noted that the number of threats to Jewish interests is on the rise due to the growing conflict between Israel and Palestine on the Gaza strip.
    • It is advised you reconsider your need to travel to areas bordering Algeria because of the risk of kidnapping. In late February 2008, two tourists were kidnapped in the south of Tunisia, close to the border. If you are traveling independently, we recommend that you do not cross the border with Algeria. The risk of kidnapping in this specific area of Tunisia is high, approach at your own caution.
    • Petty crime, such as pick pocketing and bag snatching, occurs in urban areas, especially in markets.
    • Theft from vehicles is common; you are advised to lock your cars all the time.
    • Driving in Tunisia can be erratic and dangerous.  There is very little lane discipline and pedestrian crossings are often ignored.  You should take particular care when crossing roads, even where there is a signal allowing you to do so.  Driving tends to be fast, even in towns, it is advisable drivers take precaution especially inexperienced drivers.
    • Roads in Tunisia are of reasonable good standard. However, following heavy rains large potholes can appear quite quickly, it is for this reason that drivers driving straight after heavy rains take precaution.
    • Local laws reflect the fact that Tunisia is an Islamic country. It is advised you respect local traditions, customs, laws and religions at all times and be aware of your actions to ensure that they do not offend Tunisian cultures or religious beliefs. Especially during the holy month of Ramadan or if you intend to visit religious areas.
    • In the coastal resorts and main cities, the dress code is very much like any European city or tourist areas. If visiting religious sites or more remote areas of Tunisia, you should dress more modestly and avoid any articles of clothing which may cause offence, such as revealing clothes.
    • Only married couples are permitted to cohabit in Tunisia.  Homosexuality and homosexual acts are illegal, and is punishable.
    • There is no provision for free medical attention for non-Tunisians.  All doctors' fees, medication and hospitalization in private, as opposed to state run, clinics have to be paid for on the spot.  These costs can be quite high in comparison to what you may be used to.

Tunisia Insurance Testimonials

My new job required me to travel extensively abroad away from Japan. So I purchased an International Medical Insurance plan from Pacific Prime and was very pleased with their professional and efficient service.

Kenzo Kotaro Yoshida, Japan

We have to honestly thank you for how you handled our claims issue. When we called you up from the hospital in the USA while we were away, you gave us the advice that we desperately needed. Honestly, we didn't know where else to go, or who to contact in that situation! Because of you a nerve racking situation was eased, and we got the help that we wanted. Thanks Anthony, without your help we don't know what we would have done.
