Can I obtain international maternity insurance | ||
| Index of Questions | ||
Question: When trying to start a family it is advisable to start your planning early. Many international health insurance plans will typically place a waiting period on maternity coverage. This means that you will have to have been enrolled in a policy for a predetermined amount of time before you are able to receive coverage for maternity treatment. You will not be able to claim for any maternity related treatment prior to the completion of the waiting period. Waiting periods will vary between insurance companies and may be as short as 10 months from the start of the plan, or in some cases you may have to wait up to 12 months until you are able to conceive. It is advisable to talk to a professional consultant about the options which are right for you. One interesting aspect of a maternity plan which should be considered is the availability of a New Born Child benefit, which many insurers will typically offer as a part of the maternity coverage. While a New Born Child benefit will usually have a waiting period attached to the coverage, the period will typically be much shorter than the waiting period associated with the maternity benefit; in some cases it may be as short as 6 months from the start of the plan. A New Born Child benefit is normally offered with the aim of protecting your child’s health once they have been born. A New Born Child benefit will normally be applied in one of two ways, the child will either be born into the parents existing policy, or they may receive a “free benefit”. If the child is born into the plan then they will be provided with continuing medical insurance coverage under that policy for life; regardless of the state of the infant’s health at birth. In order to have your child born into your existing plan simply complete contact the insurance company after the birth and have the infant added to the policy. It is important to note that adding your child to the existing health insurance policy will raise the policy premium, and not all insurers will offer this option. If the child, instead of being born into an international health insurance policy, receives a free benefit, then they will typically be covered by the insurance company up to a predetermined time, or financial limit. Once the limit on the benefit has been reached, the parents must submit a new application to the insurance company to ensure that the coverage continues. Maternity health insurance plans offered by Pacific Prime will provide you with a number of coverage benefits during your pregnancy including; Pre and Post-natal treatments, routine delivery, complications of delivery, medically prescribed caesarians, and may provide coverage for home delivery costs. Expat health insurance policies will typically allow you to choose where you receive treatment from any doctor or hospital in the world, and are normally guaranteed renewable for life.
