The Singapore government in conjunction with SingHealth ( Singapore 's largest hospital service) is trying to get people to be more proactive about their health status. This comes as Changi General Hospital (CGH) has uploaded a website developed by Microsoft Singapore that is designed to give tailored medical advice to individual users.
The website will allow users to upload data about themselves, such as height, weight, and blood pressure. The site will also allow users to input data on their lifestyle choices, exercise, smoking and eating habits. Overall the site can offer advice about diets or changes in lifestyle that should lead to better health.
However, doctors at CGH warn that the website is not an online doctor. They stipulate that people who are feeling ill or who are sick still need to see a doctor, and that the advice given on the website is merely a tool for keeping people healthy. This type of service has been available in the USA for some years now, however this is the first portal of its type in Asia .
If the website proves successful then Microsoft and CGH are thinking about adding comprehensive medical directories in an effort to diagnose ills. The health gains made by Singapore in the last number of years are quite substantial. The country is becoming a Medical Tourism hot spot and the high tech proficiency that many hospitals are displaying is serving as an incentive for many foreign nationals to seek treatment there.
While the quality of care is exceptional, the cost of treatment can be very high. Protect yourself by having an international medical insurance plan. For more information about health insurance Singapore policies, or to receive a free quote, please contact us.
