There are some concerns about the Brazilian travel network as there have been some fairly high profile accidents in recent years. If you are planning to use local travel facilities in Brazil make sure that the providers are properly registered and endorsed by the Brazilian government. Please be aware that the possession or distribution of drugs in Brazil is illegal and that penalties are severe if you are caught. Do not get involved with drugs.
There are an increasing number of crimes being reported involving pedophilia. The Brazilian authorities are committed towards battling child sex offenders and have taken an increasingly harsh stance on the issue. Apart from the very severe penalties that you can expect if you are convicted of a child sex offence it is also important to note that most nationalities have laws that will allow you to be prosecuted for this type of offense overseas.
There is a high risk from a number of major infectious diseases throughout Brazil. Potential threats include Dengue Fever, Cholera, Malaria, Yellow Fever, Bubonic Plague, Chagas ' disease, Hantavirus, Rabies, Hepatitis A B C and E, and HIV/Aids. It is advised that you obtain quality travel or health insurance before entering Brazil in the event that you contract one of these illnesses. If fall ill within one year after having left Brazil you should contact your doctor immediately.
If you have recently visited a country that has experienced an outbreak of Yellow Fever you may need to provide a doctor's certificate stating that you are free from disease or have been vaccinated at least 15 days before entering Brazil. If you are unable to provide such a statement you may be denied entry.
